ScreenFlow: The Best Video Editing Software for Mac

If you are using online video in your business, and you are a Mac user, then ScreenFlow should be your editing software of choice.

Of course if you are an advanced user, this doesn’t apply to you. You are probably already on Final Cut or Premier. But for those of you looking for your first (or second) editing software, ScreenFlow is a perfect option.

Whether you are creating online videos as part of a marketing funnel on YouTube, or creating digital course content, ScreenFlow should fit your needs.

If you aren’t quite ready to spend $100, then you can start with iMovie- it’s free. But the learning curve is steeper than ScreenFlow and the software isn’t as powerful. Is a few hours of your time worth $100. If so, keep reading.

Video Introduction to ScreenFlow

What do you get with ScreenFlow?

Webcam and Audio Capture

If you are just starting out, or you want to shoot a really quick video, then your webcam is a good option. All Macs have them built in, and they provide a decent image. Plus you can upgrade to an external webcam to improve the quality – I’m a fan of the Logitech c920.

ScreenFlow Welcome ScreenWhen you start ScreenFlow, you’ll be asked if you want to open an existing file, create a new recording or a new document. Select new recording to capture video from your webcam, or your screen. Or select new document if you have video or audio footage you’ve already recorded and you are ready to skip right to editing.

If you choose new recording, you’ll get to select where to record from: your webcam, desktop, iphone, microphone, etc. When you complete recording it will automatically place your video on the timeline and you are ready to edit.

Screen Capture

ScreenFlow started as a screen capture utility, and editing capabilities were added. But it’s still a powerful screen capture tool. If you want to record a Power Point presentation or show your audience how to use software on your computer, ScreenFlow will capture your mouse and keyboard and you can add a voiceover track as you record – or you can add narration later.

ScreenFlow can even capture your iPhone screen.

Video and Audio Editing

ScreenFlow is also a great editing software. It’s powerful enough to make professional videos, but easy to learn and understand.
