Have you been investing time and effort into making YouTube videos, but you don’t seem to be getting the results you desire?

It might be because of bad SEO, but you might also be creating the wrong content for your audience.

In this video, I’m going to show you how you can create great content by mapping out these three things: purpose, target audience and value.

When it comes to creating content, I don’t just sit in front of the camera and talk about whatever comes to mind. I have a Google Doc where I list my ideas and pick a few to work on.

This is where purpose, target audience and value come in.

PURPOSE

Do you want them to subscribe to your channel, or call you if they need your services? Do you want them to share your video with their friends?

This answers the question, “What do you get from the viewer?” Before you start anything, you should be clear about what you want to accomplish.

If you’re a plumber, your purpose might be to capture people who are trying to DIY their plumbing problem and get them to call you to fix it professionally.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Your target audience are your viewers who can deliver on your purpose. They have the problem your video can solve AND they can give you the results you wish to accomplish.

For our plumber, the target audience is homeowners with plumbing problems.  Not college students with plumbing problems – because they don’t hire plumbers – their landlords do.

VALUE

This is what the audience is searching for. What pain are they experiencing that your video addresses. Are they bored and you provide entertainment? Or do they have a clogged sink and you show them how to unclog it.

Continuing with the plumber example, you can give value by creating videos that show different ways on how to unclog a sink. Not only does it position you as an expert; it also shows that you know what you’re doing, and people are more likely to hire you because of it.
